Let’s get this out of the way. I’m just going to tell you right now:

You should talk to the camera. Yes, with your face.

A lot of people avoid this because it feels awkward. Maybe you don’t like how you look on camera. Maybe you feel weird talking to yourself.

But here’s the lazy secret:

Talking to the camera is the easiest way to make engaging content with minimal effort.

And we already did the hard work.

Why It Works

This Is Your A-Roll

In editing terms, this is called A-roll; the main footage that carries your video. For talking-head videos, your A-roll is you speaking directly to the camera.

A-roll isn’t just for this format—it’s the foundation of many video styles. Once you have a solid talking-to-camera A-roll track, you can easily sprinkle in other visuals (B-roll) without messing up your script. You’re simply layering extra footage on top.

We won’t go too deep into that here—we’ll cover it more in another lesson. For now, focus on making your A-roll strong so everything else is easier.
